What is the function of platelets in the blood?

Platelets help in the clotting of blood. When you get a cut or injury, platelets gather at the wound and form a clot, which is like a cover that stops more blood from coming out.
Clotting of blood is very important because it prevents too much blood loss. It also helps the wound to begin healing by forming a scab (the hard cover that forms on a wound).
