Describe the three main particles that make up an atom. Where is each particle found inside the atom?

Atoms are the tiny building blocks of all matter. Each atom is made up of three main subatomic (very small) particles:
1. Protons
Charge: Positively charged (+1)
Location: Found in the centre of the atom, which is called the nucleus
NB : The number of protons determines the type of element. For example, an atom with 1 proton is hydrogen.
2. Neutrons
Charge: No charge (they are neutral)
Location: Also found in the nucleus, together with the protons
NB: Neutrons help to hold the nucleus together and add to the mass of the atom.
3. Electrons
Charge: Negatively charged (–1)
Location: They move very fast in regions called energy levels or shells around the nucleus
NB: Electrons are involved in chemical reactions and bonding with other atoms.
